Hello guys.


We're traveling to KL with two kids, baby and three year old, would appreaciate fun (but safe) activities for all of us.

So far, I've listed the butterfly park, elephant sanctuary, petrona towers... where else? Is Genting worth it, since my little girl is three and half?

I also wanted to know where I can get silk material?

Genting is worth a look if you're visiting as a family. Looks like you've got a good plan so far. They've just introduced a hop on/hop off bus system in KL now which should prove useful for getting around and learning a little about the city at same time. Enjoy..

We did 9 days in KL in June with our children who were almost 4 and almost 2 at that stage.

Things they loved -
- Butterfly Park. Definitely worth it. You can feed fish and turtles there as well. Its pretty humid inside but shady.
- In Lake Gardens about 10min walk from the Butterfly park is the biggest playground I have ever seen. Its amazing and the kids loved it. There isn't much shade so go early. I've seen shopping centres smaller than this playground! There is a deer park nearby where you can feed the deer but we didn't make it there. Lake Gardens is huge you need a taxi to get around really!
- Petronas Towers - in the Suria shopping centre is the Petronas Science Centre and a dinosaur discovery world. The dinosaur world is well worth the visit with young kids. Our 4yr old had a ball. Plenty of interactive things to touch and watch, a pretend sandpit to sit in and dig for dinosaur bones (sand made from rubber - its odd, but the kids loved it!). And better yet its airconditioned. The actual science centre was good but it took a long time to walk through it all and the kids were bored by the end. Outside the Petronas is a lake that has a kiddies wading pool (although closed when we were there) and a playground. If you walk around the left side of the lake to the far side you'll find both. Again the playground is monstrous. Go early as it gets hot.
- monorail ride. Always entertaining!
- elephant sanctuary was a wonderful day out. My 4yr old loved it. Its a very hot day so take plenty of water and there's not really any food to buy there so make sure you take lunch. You can do the elephants, batu caves and the Deer park all in the one day. Breaks up the trip a bit. The deer park was nothing flash but a chance to stop for 20 on the way to the elephants. Nice range of animals and you could touch or get up close to most of them.
- Mid Valley Shopping Centre... ok so we loved this more than the kids (make sure you check out Bata for shoes - got leather school shoes for my son for next year for $2AU and the expensive looking bra shops - the price is crazy for good quality!). Its a huge shopping centre with prams you can hire and plenty of toy shops and ice cream to eat. Toys R Us etc. On the bottom level there was even a place which made pretty good sandwiches and fruit salad which the kids loved after weeks of rice!
- Eating dinner on Jalan Alor - at the top of the street was a really great place which had a fish and crab tank. The food was great and we could sit there while the kids watched the fish and crabs running around in the tank. There was a fruit stall opposite so the kids could fill up on fruit when they were bored with rice.

If your kids enjoy the water, then you can head to Sunway Lagoon.

If they like theme park rides but don't like the sun, head to Berjaya Times Square. it is an in-door theme park.

If you prefer cool weather, then head to Genting.

There are new water theme parks as well like the one in Gambang (Pahang), Tambun (Perak), A Famosa Resort in Malacca.

Thanks for posting all this.

KL and the surrounding area has a lot to offer.

But, during one trip when I hadn't researched or planned anything, I found it is easy to just end up in the typical backpacker area of the city, not get out to see much and not really enjoy yourself. I wrote about that experience in one of my blogs and perhaps made KL sound bad, although really I was just recording that experience.

Anyway - thanks again for this info - I think it is great and well worth reading. Well worth having some of these options in mind when you visit KL.

Yeah, Petronas Twin Tower's "Dino Trek" also looks fun..it be held at Petrosains starting last month...

Also since this month we in the middle of Year End Sale why don't you spent your time with family at major shopping centres in KL there are great discounts up to 80% there.
