We are looking at car hire from Barcelona Airport - which is the best to use - any suggestions?

We have booked up for the first half of July, for two weeks, and have arranged everything except car hire.

There are three of us, and our main requirements are a reliable car that will take three suitcases easily, have enough power to get us up and down the Pyrenees. Plus also we must be able to go in and out of France.

We're staying in Barcelona, then Carcassonne, then going round the French and Spanish Pyrenees, then back to Barcelona.

So far we've looked at Avis (with a discount by using the AA), and Europcar/Easyjet. All hints and tips would be really welcome please!

Last November we used Thrifty Car Rental for basically the same exact trip you are going to do. We rented out of downtown Barcelona and returned at the airport. There were 4 of us with 4 pieces of luggage, plus some backpacks and smaller bags. We had no problems.

Good luck and have a fun trip.

We have often found that Kemwel, an English car rental broker, has even better prices than going direct to the rental companies. Try them out at http://www.kemwel.com/
