Yeah its very easy to take a day trip to the surrounding desert. Red Rock Canyon and Death Valley are the two I know off the top of my head

Currently traveling the world for work...with a few extra fiddleybits thrown in to keep it new...it's the cheapest way to go!!!

Quote from my friend Chuck, who spent 5 months riding his bicycle all the way around the USA - "Nobody says you have to order an entree in the restaurant of life, you'll only be here once! Order the sampler, try as many as you can before you're full; odds are one (of) the items on this menu does more for you than you ever thought. And if I'm wrong, tell the waiter that his menu sucks, throw the cook aside and invent your own masterpiece. Just pour 'em all in, all your favorite ingredients. With enough imagination, any combination will work -- there are no recipes for the paths still awaiting discovery."

I've been there on two separate occasions, both times with just my partner (that's two separate partners). It was a lot of fun, we got up to lots of hi jinks but I think it would be far, far better with a load of your mates. Which is good since my friend is getting married there.

For me though, the best thing about Vegas is its location - so many cool things to see and do a few hours out of the city.

Yeah, I've been there... all these flash hotels and I stayed in the Motel 6 biggrin.gif

Hee hee - I stayed in "Sin City Hostel"

It was alright for a night, but it was close to downtown, and I wasn't impressed when a trucker kerb crawled me trying to 'pick me up' as I walked to the bus stop! Filthy man!! (I decided it wasn't really the best place for a girl on their own quite quickly!)

Most of these sound absolutely disgusting minus the cirque du soleil discounts!! Hard Rock Cafe has a $7.77 gamblers special meal that includes steak and sides, its not advertised so you have to ask. As for on strip hotels the Imperial Palace has the best location and price [$40 on weeknights, $100 on weekends]. With Cirque I'd definitely check ahead of time, they sell out pretty easily, and right now have great discounts on weeknight shows for the summer

Oh, I guess you've tried some of the meals then? Which ones?

Oh, I guess you've tried some of the meals then? Which ones?

I only ate at the midnight breakfast special at the Imperial Palace where it was like a steak, eggs, hashbrowns, and toast for a few bucks ($4 maybe?). Most of those places that have some cheap restaurant way in the back are ok, but I am partial to the buffets at lunch time instead [about twice as much but the food is top notch]. The spice market buffet at Planet Hollywood, the French buffet at Paris, and the World Market buffet at the Rio are all pretty good and pretty reasonable [$14 at lunch time I think]. The only difference between dinner time is they add crab legs and a bit more seafood and charge $8-$10 more. That is the best deal I think you can get.

The one problem with some of those deals is those places are so far removed from the strip that it is entirely not worth it to seek out just for a cheap meal. With the exception of Fremont St which is easily reachable from the Duece there is not much outside the main strip that I have tried to do. Well, there is In and Out Burger but you need a car/taxi to do that, sigh.

Also if you go to Mon Ami Gabi at Paris right at 4 when they open for the dinner crowd you can get a seat outside looking over the Bellagio fountains pretty easy

Ahhh, I see... definitely not worth the extra gas and cab fare to save a few bucks...

But getting off the strip would be an adventure in itself, no?

I just came across the 10 things to do if you want to get arrested in Vegas

1. Swim in a fountain
2. Tell dumb jokes to the TSA when you're on your way back
3. Use the iPhone card counter app
4. Play VIP and flee
5. Play Three Card Monte on the street
6. Cheating with dealers
7. Drinking and driving
8. Go back into a casino after getting kicked out
9. Prostitution
10. Fighting with a bouncer

Me and about 8 of my closet friends all went to vegas for our 21st birthdays it was amazing to be able to walk down the strip at night and even in the day. You feel like a celebrity there. Everyone is super friendly (mostly because they want you to buy stuff from them)

The clubs are so much fun if that is what you are interested in. My favorite was Prive which was in out hotel, Planet Hollywood. Most hotels require you to dress somewhat formal. Some are even black suit and tie attire.

One of my favorite things to see was the Bellagio show at midnight. It was beautiful very enchanting. I didn't gamble once but I quickly discovered that if you sit at the machines and make it look like you are gambling you get free drinks from the casino... small tip if you are tight on money

i actually did number 10. fighting with a bouncer but I didn't get arrested. He didn't believe that my ID really was me, so I suggest that you're ID picture is really up to date. I was not using a fake ID and was not let in to one of the clubs... hence the argument with the bouncer.

Good tip Ashley! BTW, I think you PM'd me while I was in Thailand - just got back, I'll reply properly over the w/e.

Slightly on your topic, but off this topic thread, I know someone who tried to use her friends ID to get in a club in London. She is white, her friend is black - she didn't get in. (lol)
