Hello, my name is Pete and I am a UK resident soon to up sticks and live in Phnom Penh. I am currently doing a TEFL qualification here in the UK and have written to dozens of schools and university departments in Phnom Penh to pave the way for possible future employment. I have had no replies whatsoever and am wondering if this is the norm for somebody applying for teaching jobs from outside of the country?

Please can anyone give me any advice and/or any contact names of people they might know who can help me. I appreciate that many gap year students and the like may not want to commit to a lengthy teaching appointment and I feel I might be being tarred with the same brush. In actual fact I am marrying a Khmer lady and my stay will be a permanent one and as such I am seeking a career move not a quick financial fix. I have been told already that it is much easier to get recognised when in situ but I really wanted to establish some connection to a school/university before I leave the UK.

Any advice/contacts would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Peter

Hi Peter, I have known a few people who found it difficult to apply to teaching positions from another country.

The people who have found it easiest, were the people who moved first, then found a job later.

Thanks very much; i thought that might be the case. I am going anyway so maybe I am worrying unneccessarily. Thanks again

Yeah try www.camhr.com - the big schools advertise there. Otherwise land, sort yourself out and should be fine to find something then.
