Going to Italy in October. Need Advice.
Is the following Itinerary feasible.
Arrive Rome-Thurs AM
Fri-Rome
Sat-Rome
Sun-Pompeii
Mon- Pompeii to Venice
Tue - Venice
Wed- Venice to Florence
Thurs Florence
Fri Florence- Tuscany
Sat- Tuscany
Sun-Tuscany
Mon- Tuscany-Rome
Tues fly-out

Traveling major cities by train.

Hey Carpathe:

Are you sure you want to travel in the opposite direction by train from Rome to visit Pompeii for one day. You will spend more time on the train and the hotels in Pompeii are not as wonderful as you can imagine. Why not spend one more day in Rome and take a bus tour of Pompeii or
Naples Pompeii Pompeii/Vestuvious. The start about 117E ( about $180) and will include a guide. The leave bright an early and return in time to have dinner and experience more of Rome. then take the train. the train to Venice is still a long trip from Rome but better than Pompeii. You will have to go to Naples then Vnice if there is even a direct train.

Your itinerary is very rushed and all over the country. You will be better off consolidating it alittle.. Using the train for Tuscany is not the best way to see the area. Why fly out of Rome if your are in Tuscany-- choose Florence, Pisa. An awfull lot of time is wasted on the train because you want to too much.

This is doable I would make a few suggestions. First I wouldn't take the train to Pompeii for the day it is much easier to take a guided bus tour of Pompeii from Rome, that way you will save time and won't have to drag your luggage to Pompeii and into another hotel. Also unless you already have all your hotels and everything already set I wouldn't go the way you are going. So many people get stuck with the idea of thinking they have to leave from the same airport they came in from and you don't. You can save a lot of time by taking the train from Rome to Florence and Tuscany then up to Venice and fly out from the Venice airport. Doing this will save you at least half a day going from Venice back to Rome and into yet another hotel.

I have condensed my trip to staying in Rome for 5 nites, Siena 5 nits and venice 3 nits. From Rome we would like to take a day trip to Pompeii, any suggestions as to good tour groups? Would you recommend a tour guide for the vatican?

I would go with the tour company Viator they have many different tours for just about everything and you could book a tour for the vatican and pompeii easily.
