I really liked Bondi but was dissapointed by Manly beach. Not sure if it was because it was school holidays but no one seemed to be able to take their litter home with them (and I will add they were all locals)!

Mine too!

Sure I can testify! They were all kids of school going age - but still with such a beautiful country and all their work on helping the environment, I would not have expected it.

Best beaches were on the north coast of Western Australia - miles and miles of white sand beaches, totally and utterly empty.

Bondi beach, I must agree.

And, oh, some people just take the natural beauty of things for granted. no.gif

Totally agree WA Beaches are far the best - you could walking along the beaches for ages without bumping into another person.

What about Balmoral? I think it is absolutely stunning and not nearly as crowded as some of the Eastern suburb beaches. If I had to choose an Eastern suburb beach, it would have to be Bronte.

I think the best beach I have seen in Australia is Whitehaven in Queensland - WOW!

I haven't been to Balmoral but Whitehaven is amazing and certainly up there with the best beaches.

Whitehaven's famous for it's beauty but you normally only get to stay there for a couple of hours max. If I'm going to the beach, I want to spend some quality time there!!

Pity Manly wasn't in top condition when you went there, every time I've been there the only thing it's been covered with is sun-tanning bodies.

Personally I prefer Palm Beach for a more relaxing swim, Balmoral Beach for making an event out of it (great food at the Bathers Pavillion or local cafes) and Newport for some fun in the surf. I can always find a huge patch of sand to call my own, the shops are close when you need more drinks or ice cream and it's a great excuse to go to the Newport Arms for lunch on the way home. Also in summer they almost always have promotional people giving away something for free - score!

I'm just grateful I live in Sydney where it's so easy to pop to any of these beaches in summer! I missed it so much when I was living in England, I'd take a holiday to somewhere in Europe to get a beach fix only to find what passes as a "beach" over there. I'm sorry but if I have to wear shoes in the water because the rocks hurt my feet then it's not a beach!

Do you agree, disagree?

5. Coogee Beach
4. Manly Beach
3. Bronte Beach
2. Bondi Beach
1. Tamarama Beach

disagree

5.Coogee Beach - too many drunk backpackers and youth (although their are attempts to tidy up coogee's reputation and make it more family orientated)
4. Manly Beach - yes agree !!
3. Bronte Beach - i'd replace that with Clovelly
2. Bondi Beach - nope strongly disagree has become so hyped up and it attracts a rather undesirable crowd of wanabes , try hards , too many tourists etc etc
1. Tamarama Beach - nice beach but i wouldnt put it in a top 5 list

why didnt any of Sydney's northern beaches make the list or even Cronulla etc etc

Cronulla, Wanda (south of Sydney in the Sutherland Shire) and what about some beaches down in the Royal National Park or even north like Palm Beach or Narrabeen

I think locals will always have a very different top 5 to tourists. It's a shame that visitors don't see more of the northern beaches.

I'm a South Sydney girl and spent must of my teenage years at Cronulla, Elouera and Wanda, occassionally hanging out at Thirroul or Corrimal down in the Gong. Awesome beaches and so less crowded than the tourist beaches like Coogee and Bondi and you don't have to compete for space (and have a decent surf)

My Favorite is Coogee beach because it is fantastic with its gentle surf and relaxed atmosphere. Great if you are single, married and have kids.Relax in the swimming pool or play a few sets on the tennis court.

Went to both Bronte and Bondi last Friday ... beautiful sunny day, a few brave swimmers (not me!). apparently the water temp is supposed to be similar to the air temp at the moment. wasn't enough to convince me!
