My friends and I are planning to drive from Tongariro National Park to Wellington on 29 Mar 2011. We are planning to set off at 6.30am at the Park to catch the 2.30pm ferry from Wellington to Picton.
We were wondering how the road conditions are and whether we would be able to make it in time for the ferry. Appreciate it if someone could advise. Thank you.

[quote name='agricandelray' post='509611' date='Mar 15 2011, 07:53 AM'] Road condition is good in most of the route but it can get bit bumpy in between but on the whole the road is fun to drive on.
No advertising please.......................there are many good car rental companies in New Zealand so be sure to have a look on the internet.
Faster to go via Ohakune, Waiouru, Bulls, rather than Wanganui - hwy 4 to Wanganui is a very slow road, very windy. Nice scenery though! You could do it in that time but it usually takes me longer - maybe I drive slow!
