it's very funny, but I can assure you the it really hurts!!!
Many people get injured, but the follwing year they're ready again for the fightings! In fact they're proud to show to the others the marks of the battle.
The battle of oranges dates back to 1800 but before that (during the Middle Ages) the BEANS were the protagonist of the battle. In fact it is said that the feudatory used to donate to the poor families twice a a year a pot of beans. The families used to throw him back his beans in order to demonstrate their contempt.
During carnival period so they started using beans as confetti!
In 1930's during the carnival parades, girls used to throw from their balconies confetti, flowers and... oranges to the boys walking in ordered to be noticed! So they started to throw them back the oranges and little by little it became a real WAR!
Nowadays, the battle has strict rules with teams challenging, with a final winner!
