Hi Everyone,

I'm just wondering if I can purchase a one-way ticket to Japan if my stay there is indefinite. I want to stay between 2 and 3 weeks then head to S.Korea.

So can I just book a one-way ticket to Japan for now, and then buy my ticket to S.Korea there?

any advice kindly appreciated.

With a working visa it should be no problem.

Technically, you need an onward ticket. In some countries airlines might refuse to let you board when check-in staff see you don't have a visa allowing you to enter without an onward ticket.

Japan Immigration probably won't ask to see an onward ticket, but sometimes they do, and they occasionally turn people away and put them on a plane back where they came from. It's up to you whether you want to take the risk.

Wakingdream is absolutely right. I was asked when I came out here the first time and I had fortunately been told to book a return so I was ok.

One thing - check the prices. Even if you're not thinking of returning, sometimes a return ticket is actually cheaper than a single.

When I left Singapore to go back to the UK a couple of years ago I only wanted a single but I ended up buying the return because it cost less - don't ask me why!

If you havent bought your tickets already I would just purchase a Multi City ticket, going onto S. Korea from Japan, so you have something saying you will be leaving Japan. Keep in mind though you will have the same issue with S. Korea, I think officially you always need an onward ticket, whether the customs people ask for it or not is another story. I don't know where you are leaving from but I just bought my tickets from LAX to Tokyo then on to Kuala Lumpur for like $900 on Korean Air. If you arent really sure how long you want to stay in japan I guess you could always change your ticket but that can be pricey. From looking at airfare from US to Japan and then onto some other city in Asia I found that Korean and JAL were the cheapest. I used http://farecast.live.com/ to find my airfare, might be worth a look.

Hi. I am an Australian citizen planning a trip like this: Flying one-way Sydney to Denpasar with Virgin, then flying one-way Denpasar to Tokyo with Garuda then flying Tokyo to Sydney one-way with whoever... Would I be allowed to board by these airlines and would the countries allow me entry without a return ticket, but with a one-way ticket out of the country to my home country?

Additionally, could anyone advise me on the best way to fly between Bali and Tokyo, price is important.
