...so with the heavy snow this week, my friend waited at Dublin airport a few hours until her flight was cancelled. She was told she could rebook her flight for free on the internet or by queuing at a desk at the airport itself. The queues were miles long, for both the people and the computers...
To avoid staying at the airport all night, I tried to re-book her flight on the internet here as I had all the details, while she made her way back to my flat...the helpline phone number was also closed for the night so she couldn't phone that.
The internet site wasn't set up properly, so because it thought she had already left, wouldn't let you re-book. She asked me just to book her a flight and she'd try working out getting the money back later...she's currently trying to get the money back.
Tonight, I should have been flying to London from Dublin, and this time the heaviest snow was in Dublin, so pretty much all flights were cancelled. I tried the helpline first, which was engaged or cut you off when you got through...so I decided to try online again in case they had sorted the earlier problem out
...turns out they had...but the problem is, you can only change your outbound flight and as so many flights have been cancelled, all flights tomorrow with Ryanair are booked, and the earliest one you could get was for Saturday night. You can't book later than your return date, as I thought I could salvage it that way (by using that portion another weekend, and booking another flight to accommodate this part of the trip)
Ah well...lost out...what started out as a cheap trip has suddenly become quite expensive...!
If anyone needs the helpline number it is 00353 (0) 1 248 0857 (I couldn't get through tonight when I needed to change the ticket, but I did get through this afternoon to find out if my flight had been cancelled - it hadn't at that point) Other than that, good luck with www.ryanair.com
Funny you should post this...a friend of mine was supposed to fly from Edinburgh to Dublin today but her flight got canceled, so she ended up taking a train to somewhere on the coast and then a ferry to Belfast and then another train to Dublin....talk about a mess!
Anyways, good luck to all traveling in this awful weather!
Safe travels,
