The world is going through economic reccession and first effect of cost cutting by corporate sector falls on travel, business or leisure. in India, fall out of economic slow down has affected travel and tourism business a lot.

As a cost cutting method, corporate sector has imposed restrictions on business travel, within India and out of it,too. Star hotels have, as clients, a very large number from corporate sector and slowing down has rsulted into poor occupancy rate in such hotels. Similarly it has affected air travel. These are two examples of travel being affected by economic slowing down.

Leisure travel has also been hit. Leave travel concession that is offered by corporate nd government sector is being cut. Thus it is slowing down travel business all over in India.

Recession is everywhere in the world and the report that I get, similar effect is being experienced all over.

Another incident had great effect on Indian tourism scene. The deadly terrorist attack on Mumbai that killed almost 300 peole of all kinds of citizens from across the world. Immediately red alert was issued by many contries and number of incoming tourists dwindled. I am sure same thing happened after terror had struck in Bali or elsewhere.

Conclusion is terrorims along with serious economic slow dlown is hampering travel trade.

I think that yes, the terrorist attacks in Mumbai would affect the situation in Mumbai, but not anywhere else in the world.

I also think that the recession will affect travel, but not a noticeable amount. People will travel the same amount of time, but maybe not by plane, or maybe not at high end hotels and restaurants.

Are you talking about Mumbai specifically? In that case, yes, I would imagine that the terrorist attacks there have had an effect on tourism. However, over time it will pick up again.

In a broader sense, I think those who want to travel - who enjoy travel as opposed to a week on a beach once a year - won't be phased by Terrorism or Recession. Terrorism is just another "maybe" they may happen, probably won't, best not to worry about it. If you do, you won't leave your house. Recession, well, they'll find a way to save money.

Someone at work (who knows I like travelling) asked me the day after the bombings if I'd still go to Mumbai. I replied saying if I was given a ticket I would go that same day. The week after the incident was probably the safest time to be in Mumbai due to the high police presence.

Also, bombers don't usually bomb in the same place in very quick succession.

I believe you are wrong. I am seeing it has affected tourist scenario in entire India and not in Mumbai alone.

Economic recession has small yet strong presence among travelers that can be seen from occupancy rate in starred hotels across continenets.

Really? Do you have statistics to back that up?

You could be right, I can see that happening too.

I think maybe those on escorted holidays, package holiday tours etc may well not be traveling to India. Without being too negative about them, they strike me as the type of people who do worry about terrorism and avoid anywhere they consider remotely edgy - hence why they are on escorted holidays in the first place.

However those who travel independently will be still traveling there. However it's unlikely they will be in "starred hotels", since they are on a budget and want to experience the place properly.

As far as the recession goes I still think it depends what people 'choose' to spend their money on - many people I know do have chances, but just don't take them.

I know someone who recently bought a huge cinema size tv for their front room, cost them nearly £2,000 - yet when I told them I was going to Malta in February they went into a speech about how lucky I am!! We could probably have 4 trips to Malta for the price of that tv.

As for Terrorism, you can't spend your life worrying about what might happen and it amazes me that someone would avoid a whole country because of a bombing in a certain area - India is a huge place.
