So...I had a bunch of Aeroplan points and I couldn't resist. I spent about an hour on the phone back and forth to Canadian North and Aeroplan and what do you know? They booked me a flight in September!

I'll be there Sept. 3-10, SO looking forward to it.

My next question is:

What do I do for that week?

I'm thinking maybe some kind of expedition out into the wilderness?

What do you think?

Hey congratulations! Actually, when you are in the North they use the phrase "go out on the land" rather than "wilderness expedition." Interestingly enough, people also never refer to the "wilderness" but rather just the tundra.

I am not familiar with where people head out to when there is no snow but they must go out by "Honda" (the common reference for ATV) to nearby lakes. But I am also not sure if you need to be leary of wandering polar bears at that time as well. Kayaking is also an option there.

I know some people in Iqaluit so I will try to contact them (just gotta find their e-mails again) and try to get some more info for you. It is always much nicer if a local can show you around and help you out so I will see if I can get you a contact name. I also know a local woman who operates a tour company and has done various dogsled treks around Baffin Island and i think also the North Pole. She would be able to give you some info for sure and if you tell her you are a friend of mine she would hopefully be extra nice because I gave her four of my huskies recently.

I would also try to book your hotel/B&B as soon as possible. Check out this website Nunavut Tourism which also has accommodation infor for Iqaluit.

If I haven't gotten back to you with more info, remind me again later.

Nice !
I've always wanted to do that kind of trip myself. Do you think you'll be knee deep in snow over there, by early September ?

Brian, I called the company you recommended and they don't do trips in September. I wonder if anyone knows of any companies going out on the land in September?
