Hey everyone, it's good to be here finally with people I can talk about traveling. I'm looking forward to it, it seems like a fun and friendly community.

I'm planning a big solo trip across South America, United States and finally to Canada which will begin nearer the end of this year. From Rio de Janeiro to Vancouver. I'm going to need all the advise I can get!

Anyway take care,
Merc

Welcome to the club, Merc.

I was in London in November 1989. I stayed at a flat, which my mother & step-father own, in West Hampstead for three weeks, with my sister & her husband. Had a great time & would like to see England again some time.

I wish you well on your South African adventure. If you can get internet access there, keep in touch with us on how it's going & include lots of photos.

That trip sounds awesome. I want to do something like that next year, but backwards, from Vancouver south.

Maybe if you hold off a bit, we can meet in the middle.

Thanks for the welcome guys. polydemic, I've never actually been to West Hampstead, but north London in general is a very versatile area in terms of culture, its amazing. Did you ever go to the south west? I live near the Richmond area, nice place but when you've lived and worked here for all your life you start to want out.

starlagurl, I really can't wait to go. My friends are getting bored of me because I keep talking about the trip! Are you going early or late next year? I'm not sure when I'll get back to be honest, so there's always a chance we can meet. I've started a thread in the South America folder asking for any help I can get, its got my itinerary in there if you want to check it out. Let me know what you think.

I'm going all the way through Argentina, from the Iguazu Falls to Buenos Aires, and down south via the River Plate and number of other little towns until I get to the extreme south, a place called Ushuaia (then back up through Patagonia to resume the journey).

Though I must admit those three places are the only ones that seemed to appeal to me in Argentina. Are there any more spots you can recommend? (I'm also visiting Corrientes and the Puerto Madryn area).

Thanks smile.gif

Aw, too bad. I would be going anytime but winter (on my motorcycle you see), I don't have any dates yet. Still working on my trips for this year, slowly but surely.

Hey dude, nice to see you here. Your trip is sounding fab, and for the time being I'm enjoying your profile picture.

I lived down near Richmond a couple of years ago, loved it down by the river, definitely one of the better parts of our fine country... if only it was more within my price range!

Richmond sure is wonderful in the summer, its just a shame it rains here like 300 days a year.

No. I spent most of my time north of the Thames. Few exceptions were Southwark, for a Doctor Who exhibition (I've been a DW fan since 1981), & Greenwich, where I found the best fish & chips in the world. But, yes, I did find London very versatile & amazing, & couldn't cover it all in only three weeks. And as a nomad, after 22 years in Seattle, I've been wanting out for some time now.
