Have you seen these rather unbelievable and sobering images which uses statistics to depict aspects of American society? A couple of them are also travel-related. Running the Numbers
What's really annoying is all the office people at my job who print EVERYTHING. They look at the paper for a few seconds and throw it away. I refuse to print useless things.

To me the shocking thing is the number of gun deaths in the USA. Fortunately for the rest of us, most people killed are family or friends of the gun owners.

I was just checking that out a couple of weeks ago. Sobering definitely. saddening as well for sure. It makes me think of that ever-popular phrase; what is this world coming to? Plastic bags. People are still using those?? Seriously?
I hope to raise some questions about the roles and responsibililties of the individual in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming.
Wow. Chris Jordon rules. What a socially responsible guy to go to this length to point out the big picture. I bet this has caught alot of attention.
he's currently got two showings, one at Winsor Gallery on Granville in Vancouver and one at Kopeikin Galleryon Melrose in W. Hollywood If you're near any of those two locations, you're lucky. I'd check it out.

They are trying to cut back on the plastic bags here in the UK but it's not really working. I think 1 supermarket has removed them completely but most of them still offer them. They just need to start charging 5p/bag like they do in Germany and people will start reusing.
I liked the little green bags that all the backpackers had in Australia

What's a little green bag?
Also, the grocery store here (Loblaws) gives you 1 cent back for each time you bring your own bag to the store. An incentive this is not.
I actually went to another grocery store the other day (Loeb) and started putting things into my backpack. The lady at the cash says to me: "We don't charge for plastic bags here you know!"
What the??? Are you nuts, lady? That's not the POINT.

Here in Florida, Publix Supermarkets sell a green cloth bag for just US$ 1.00. I personally reuse my doubled brown paper bags. These bags can last months. Regrettably I am still treated as a curiosity in my local supermarket, and bag boys still try to put everything in plastic bags and then load them into my paper bags. Publix also has drop off tubs for used plastic bags and polystyrene trays and egg cartons.

My 'little green bag' lasted ages. Little green bags rule.. Here's to the little green bag..
Yup, I have four of them, all put to good use. Not bad for 90c!
I've got four too. I use them all the time. I've also got two that fold down into little we pouches that are easy to just stick into my shoulder bag. Then I always have a reuseable bag on me. I can't believe people who get all their groceries bagged! Here the stores sell cloth bags for very little and they're always at the checkout.

Yeah, that does look all plasticky. Yuck. Nope, the Little Green Bag is a sort of cloth I suppose, tough as old boots and useful as a swiss army knife. Mine say "IGA" and "Coles" and remind me of great times as I mooch around a supermarket in bleak mid winter UK :-)

Oh, and in reply to the original post, those pictures are really intriguing. Hopefully it will make at least a few people buck their ideas up and start to be more responsible.

Just got round to looking at this website. It's a great shame people are still living like this. Excellent website though. Love the use of the word 'denial', absolute genius..

Talking of reusable bags, it has caught on in the part of the UK I live in - The Tesco near us don't actually put carrier bags out anymore, you'd have to ask for them. We've been using reusable bags for a looooooooong time before they started that, but since they have been doing it, more and more people seem to have taken to using reusable ones.
