Taste

If you're in the mood for Asian-style pork ribs, stop by Bloomingdale's at the Mall at Short Hills today for a cooking demonstration on the All-Clad slow cooker of the recipe by Sara Moulton, the Gourmet magazine executive chef who just launched her new PBS series based on her book, "Sara's Weeknight Meals." All-Clad and Bloomingdale's culinary staff will be on hand for the tasting from 1 to 3 p.m at the Main Course on the store's lower level.

Ray of light

Despite the proliferation of children's musicians in horn rims, mr. Ray continues to rock the playhouse.

Ray Andersen, a West Orange resident who lives in Highland Park, can take every genre from folk to metal and turn it into a child's singalong. Andersen understands the joys and fears of childhood, whether it's playing with your trucks or transforming into a dinosaur to scare bullies.

You can catch mr. Ray at the Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium in North Branch on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Route 28 and Lamington Road in North Branch. He'll sing hits like "Kalien, the Alien" and new songs from last year's album Family Ride.

Tickets are $8. Reservations are recommended. For tickets, call (908) 281-8805. For more information, visit raritanval.edu.

Velveteen underground

A classic gets a radical makeover with masks and Grammy-nominated musical score when "The Velveteen Rabbit" hits the stage Sunday at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.

The production, based on the book about a toy bunny who springs to life, will be presented by the Enchantment Theatre Company, featuring a score by award-winning composer/arranger Don Sebesky.

The show starts at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $19. The center is located at 1 SOPAC Way, South Orange. For more information visit sopacnow.org or call (973) 275-1114.

Watch

Children of Holocaust survivors Carolyn Dorfman and Bente Kahan join forces for their latest collaboration, "The Legacy Project: Echoes" tomorrow afternoon at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York.

The performance is a combination of theater, music and dance from two artists who share their Eastern European Jewish heritage and an interest in exploring themes of faith, survival and renewal in their art.

Dorfman, the artistic director of a modern dance company based in Union, has revisited her seminal work, "Cat's Cradle," integrating it into the one-woman theatrical piece, "Voices from Theresienstadt," a signature work of Kahan, a Norwegian Jewish actress and singer.

The intimate performance begins at 2:30 in Edmund J. Safra Hall at the museum, 33 Battery Place. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and $7 for museum members. Call the box office at (646) 437-4202.

Atlantic City

Now playing at The Tropicana's IMAX theater is the "The Day the Earth Stood Still," a contemporary reinvention of the 1951 sci-fi classic.

Keanu Reeves stars as Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission - and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth."

Showtimes are 2:30, 4:45, 7 and 9 p.m. today and 3:30, 5:45 and 8 p.m. on Sunday.The Quarter is located at Brighton and Boardwalk Avenues. Tickets are $14. Call (888) 505-1435.
