I am planning on taking my Christmas somewhere warm & have usually gone to SEAsia or to Costa Rica, but I have been studying the map a bit more lately, and have begun to think about the eastern Caribbean. Tobago, probably, because I can find places to stay for just under $10us a day, which is kind of important to me because I will be there for at least a month and would like to save a bit over my usual trip to Thailand. I am looking for a quiet sort of small town, a beach and snorkelling would be very nice, but a beach is sufficient. I have heard a lot of negatives about Jamaica, and Haiti isn't on my shortlist, but has anyone got any ideas on quiet beaches that are not resort type areas?

Didn't get there myself but my travel friends said Santa Marta in northern Colombia was a great spot. They also said the girls were especially good looking there too. wink.gif

Here's an example off hostels.com about prices. Santa Marta

I have a friend who went to Tobago a year and a half ago and absolutely LOVED it! She said it was a perfect place to go - quiet, still untouched. I'll ask her where she stayed and if she has any other advice for Tobago for you... stay tuned! smile.gif

Bumping this back up with a twist...

Does anyone know of any budget places (including hostels!) in the rest of the Caribbean? In particular:

- Puerto Rico (inc Vieques & Culebra)
- Turks & Caicos
- Bahamas
- Antigua & Barbuda
- British Virgin Islands
- US Virgin Islands
- St. Vincent & the Grenadines
- Barbados
- Grenada
- Bonaire & Curacao
- Martinique, Guadeloupe, Montserrat

Has anyone ever done an Island Hopping - Backpacker style trip through the Caribbean that can share some tips?

Cheers

A tour to the Island would be a little expensive specially in dicember, it is high season in the caribbean.

About Santa Marta, it is fun and beautifula and YES COLOMBIAN WOMEN ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL(I'm Colombian). There is an Island that is just fantastic, it is call PROVIDENCIA, it might be a little bit price wo get there since the island is pretty much virgin, but once you get there is totally worth it.
