Travel Podder Paula Russell finishes the Race For Life
TravelPod recently sponsored Paula Russell, aka travelmonster, on her adventure in this year’s Race for Life in St. Albans, UK. She ran alongside a crowd of women who collectively raised £351,000 for Cancer Research UK.

“Every penny raised in sponsorship goes towards furthering their work to find new treatments for the disease,” Paula says. “They organize events all round the UK where women come together and either run, jog or walk 5 kilometres to raise money.”
I asked Paula why she decided to participate:
“I like trying to make a difference to someone’s life and I believe Cancer Research does and will continue to work tirelessly to find a cure for this disease – and they need funds.
“One in three people get cancer of some sort – I don’t want it to be someone in my family and if it is, I want a cure for it.
“I have seen the effects that cancer and chemotherapy have on people, and the pain they go through.
“I myself have lost an immediate member of family. It was extremely untimely and I have seen and experienced the devastation in a family when you lose someone you love.
She was deeply inspired by the amount of women who came together to help people. Paula tells the story of one young woman walked the whole thing backwards – because she was sponsored more to do so. Another lady actually walked the entire race on crutches. She’s got it all written up in her TravelPod blog.
Paula is definitely planning on attending the race next year, and her goal is to run the entire thing.
Good luck to you in the future, Paula, see you at the racetrack!
