Well, this year, it's not about where I'm going but preparing for further down the road I guess.

I just finished French 1 and will be taking French 2 on my quest to learn French (I had been teaching myself prior to that).

For the summer, I have registered for an intensive 4-wk course to attain my TEFL for my ultimate goal at teaching English in Paris, or perhaps other parts of France. I am also hoping to volunteer around the world when I can.

We MAY try to get to Paris after my TEFL course, if possible. Other than that, no big travel plans this year--saving up for later.

I've been using Rosetta Stone to teach myself French and Spanish with mixed results...mostly I find its hard to keep myself motivated. Did you find that teaching yourself was too hard as well? Is the class worth it?

(Sorry if this is off topic...)

My wish list would be:
  • Paris in March (this is already booked)
  • India
  • Sydney to visit family
  • Bahrain
  • My Best Friend is hopefully visiting in May for 2 weeks
  • Iran

That is that....I have also started planning trips 2010 (when I may head back to Oz)...I am thinking either West Africa or Central America, Caribbean Cruise and Orlando...

Happy New Year everyone.....hope your year is full of lots of travel and/or new adventures

Hmm next year really depends on money, of which I currently have none. I had intended visit Ukraine and Russia about this time next year but that is looking very doubtful.

As long as I get over to somewhere new in Europe a couple of times next year I'll be happy, even if it's just for a weekend.

I'm all over that like white on rice! Maybe that's where we will finally meet?! That would be funny. In all seriousness, it's a definite on my list but may be a place Jer and I go when we're "older".

Well, since learning French is part of my Travel resolutions...it seems on topic to me. wink.gif

I do like Rosetta Stone. However, I did find that taking a class was so, so helpful, and I'm really glad I did it. You can learn a lot on your own, and from Rosetta Stone. But for me, I needed the class to pull it all together and to understand the quirky grammar, and for the conjugation of verbs. I think part of it just depends on your learning style what's best for you. For me, I need the classes too. I will still use Rosetta Stone to further my learning though.

Also, I understand the motivation part. I have a deep desire to learn the language, but you have to have a lot of self-discipline to make yourself do Rosetta Stone regularly. Sometimes I'd go quite awhile without doing it all! You don't have that luxury with a class...

Good luck with your learning!

Hell yeah!

I've only been once before (a long time ago) and it was amazing...but I'm curious...why do you say that?

I went to College there for a couple of semesters and it is probably my favorite place on earth. It's a great place to visit, a far greater place to live.

Oh yes. It's been number 2 on my list, after Japan, for years. Almost made it there once as well - my girlfriend at the time was of Iranian descent (parents were Iranian, moved to the UK in 1979...) and we planned to go visit her Grandparents there. Would have been amazing.

She dumped my arse at the top of a mountain in France though, so it didn't work out. One day though, one day...

Iran's in my top 3 places to visit as well. Considering it's dirt cheap once there as well it may move higher this year!

Went Snowboarding in the French Alps, and she chose that as the perfect time to end our 5 year relationship.

Thing is, we had to get home still. Together. It was really awkward. Really, really, awkward.

That's why my travel blog entries prior to 2007 mention "we" but have no mention of anyone else's name beach.gif

Ohhhhhhh, I would love to go in August, I went in August last year, but not long enough.

Sadly perhaps, I am going in February (for Valentine's Day, aw)

Well Valentines is certainly fine ( Biased ) but the August suggestion is right on. Festival Season is not only the most fun, but also the best time for Green Onion Cakes!

Dude, that sucks. I could never understand ending a relationship while you're stuck together. Like, the last thing you'd want to do is continue enjoying your trip together. Did you guys split ways after that?

I've got a fairly intensive travel schedule for 2009

Guangzhou, China (Started off the New Year there)
Hong Kong, China (one day there on way back home)
Macau, China (partial day there in the casino)
Glens Falls, NY (home for 2 days btwn trips)
Tres Lagoas, Brazil (currently here for work)
Iguazu Falls (Argentina side) (long weekend away from work)
La Paz, Bolivia (I want to bike down the North Yungas Road...aka Road of Death)
Porto Seguro, Brazil (possible work trip)
Syktyvkar, Russia (possible work trip, depending on work visa issuance)
Denver, CO (to visit friends)
Probably will be several other last minute trips for work or to visit friends.

Also, Jacqui and I are in the midst of planning a European Rail-Riding Adventure for this summer (in order):
Turkey (European side)
Turkey (Asian side)
Greece
Bulgaria
Macedonia
Albania
Kosovo (part of Serbia
Montenegro
Srpska (part of Bosnia & Herzegovina)
Bosnia & Herzegovina
Serbia
Romania
Hungary
Slovakia
Poland
Czech Republic
Austria
Slovenia
Croatia
Italy
San Marino
Vatican City
Malta
Sicily (Italian Island)
Lampedusa (Italian Island)
Sardinia (Italian Island)
Corsica (French Island)
France
Monaco
Switzerland
Lichtenstein
Germany

I think that might be enough new countries for one year... Although I also like the idea of doing a cruise to Bermuda and the Caribbean in fall if the price is right.

Well, I have been in Egypt for NYE and now I am in Jordan, so we can not take these as "resolutions", I'd say. smile.gif
My plans for this year, so far:

- Israel in April (join the "Walk about love" there)
- End of April go to London
- hitch from the UK through France, Belgium, Germany to Vienna
- go to Turkey
- visit Syria
- from there, cross through Iran and Pakistan to India
- go to the Philippines for some volunteer work

That should keep me busy for the year!

But who keeps all his resolutions anyway? So maybe I will change plans - most likely I will... smile.gif

Andy, I've heard this before, and I'm not exactly sure if it still applies, but if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport, Syria, will not let you into the country. You might want to check up on that....

Does anyone else know if that applies??
