My friend nealinthailand is sick in bed right now with something he picked up after eating street food.

Have you been sick while traveling? What happened?

My son got sick while we were on vacation. He was only 1yo at that time. He was throwing up and having diarrhea and was hospitalized for 3 days. The night before our flight he started throwing up again and had to take him to the ER. He was cleared to travel the next day. Amazingly, he was good thoughout the entire 20 hours flight.

About three weeks after I got back from Africa I was ridiculously sick... actually thought I had malaria because all the symptoms were the same.

But er, turns out I baked some bread with some yeast that was about three years out of date and gave myself food poisoning... felt like a bit of a dick when I revealed this to the doctor after all the blood tests and what not!

Personally, the worst sickness I had during travel... not to mention the most embarrassing was LBM! Enough said. ;D

Do I dare ask what LBM stands for?

I didn't even know yeast goes bad, I better throw mine out! I've been cooking with expired yeast too....hahaha

Do I dare ask what LBM stands for?

LBM stands for loose bowel movement otherwise known as diarrhea

Thanks! It's a real Montreal bagel from St. Viateur. (WAY better than the infamous Fairmount)

Now I know this will not be able to compare to the Runs, but I had a latenight of drinking on my second night in Vancouver back in 2006 and had an early morning flight across the country to St John's in Newfoundland.

And spent both the day of the flight and about 2days after taking Gravol and Flat Gingerale to sober me up as I was a mess on the flight, but the Staff were kind enough to let me sit where they keep their luggage by the galley and the bathrooms for an face orientated emergencies.

The only time I was ill when travelling was in Mexico. I don't know if it was the climate, motion sickness (riding the bus for hours), or nervousness of being in a new place & meeting new people. (It wasn't the water. I was careful not to touch that.) I vomitted after almost every meal; even the Pepto-Bismol I would take. By the time my stomach settled down it was time to go home. But I did enjoy the whole experience & come away with a memorable time of my life.

Gross, seal, I hope you didn't have any accidents.

Poly: Good to hear you still had a good time. Mexico is probably the best place ever.

No Louise, nothing the wonderfully designed Airsick Bag's couldn't handle.

But I do still very sorry for the Air Staff who had to put up with me those two flights.

I usually get a cold or bronchitis (usually starting from the plane and aircon on it), so spend most of the time coughing...usually don't have many tummy related incidents, although I did get very ill in Cambodia (after 4 weeks of eating street foods), but I think it may have been water, and I had to visit the bathroom after everymeal for about 6 weeks.....ironically I didn't lose weight (what the?)

Research has found that the recirculated air, on the planes, carry a lot of bacteria, chemicals, & particles that can make people ill. Talk to your doctor & ask what you can do about this. I'm thinking of some kind of mask that would filter out all these things as you breathe.

I've actually seen someone wearing a mask on a plane before. Maybe this IS the way to go for you.

Wow...I feel for you guys... I guess I'm lucky to say that the most sick I've ever been was some vomiting from stress. We got delayed and missed our connection to Paris and then lost our luggage for a week....

I also had a friend pop an eardrum while we were in Mexico...he said it was pretty painful, and we had to cancel scuba, but other than that it wasn't too bad!

I guess I've been pretty lucky (knock on wood).

Why would you want to do something about this? Why filter it out? It's good for you. A little exposure is good, build up your immunity and all that..
