Hi Trader437
It really depends on your wants/needs/desires.
I found that the first place to start is by getting a big map of the world, and first deciding which countries you really want to visit. By doing that you can then start looking at ticketing prices and whether it is cheaper to get all flights individually or to take a 'round the world' ticket, or whether to do a combination of both - which is what I've ended up doing for my trip.
People each have their own personal tastes and ways of doing things, but doing things independently, for me, gives far greater satisfaction - so my advice would be to decide upon where you want to go and start reading travel blogs on here to give you an idea of the sorts of places you'd be interested in going to and then investigate ways of doing it for yourself. I believe that purchasing tours for everything - in the main - ends up costing you more money and you can never truly be free to experience things as you want, as you are being herded round in a group and may want to stay longer than others some places and far less than others at other places.
A big contributing factor will also be how much time you have - there is a fine line to be made between seeing/experiencing lots and cramming too much in so that you end up not really getting to know any place for what it is.
If you have any specific question just ask, as I'm sure someone on here will be able to help.
Happy trip planning!!
