Hello !

First of all, let me say that this is my first topic on TravelPod, and I'm from Italy so sorry for my english...

That being said, here's my request for help:
I am currently planning on visiting Salar de Uyuni in August 2011. I've seen those unbelievable pictures of sky reflections in the few inches of water that cover the salt landscape... I was wondering if this is visible year-round or only in specific months (eg Jan-Feb).

They are specific months when they get a little rain. Most of the time
it is a dry desert. I say you will have a great time there. There are many companies
offering 3 to 5 days trip around the Salar. Don't go for the cheapest one.
Someone of those companies the driver falls sleep on the wheel. I drove my self
and I never see such a beautiful place. Also what you can do is do half of the trip on the Salar and ask the driver to leave you at the border of Bolivia-Chile. From there is just a hour to
San Pedro de Atacama. Happy travels.
