What is a Local Expert?Click here for a current list of all of TravelPod's Local Experts. Local Experts are dedicated people who are passionate about their hometowns. They can be very helpful if you are looking for insider information on your next travel destination.
They are here to answer all your questions about many places all over the world. They are your "ear to the ground" in foreign places.
The most important aspect of being a Local Expert is posting a guide about one specific part of the world, also known as a "starter kit". This is a topic that is easily located, pinned to the top of the forum that a Local Expert represents.
If you are traveling to, say, Ontario, you should be able to easily find the Ontario topic in the Canada forum, read the guide to the province, and then reply to that topic for further discussion or a more detailed explanation about Ontario.
Local Experts will usually respond to your question promptly. If they don't, you can contact them directly.

All they have to do is write an acceptable starter kit and participate in the forums on a weekly basis (so that I know they are still alive and still interested in helping out).
Here are some examples of excellent "starter kits"

Duties and responsibilitiesLocal Experts are required to keep tabs on their area of expertise. This means tracking all messages in the forum about the region they represent.
When a new expert is added, they automatically become the moderator of the forum they represent.
Because of this, they are expected to contribute to the general community by posting a new topic or replying to another person at least once a week.
