Hello! New to this website. I'm leaving in the beginning of December for a 5-month stay in Australia. I'll be flying into Sydney and trying my hardest to find a job, place to stay and experience one of the most amazing countries!
Any suggestions, advice, comments are welcome!

Hi Melgrl, welcome to the TP forums.. thumbsup.png

My advice? Don't do what so many do and get stuck in Sydney. The real Australia's out there just gagging to be discovered. So discover it. Move around a find what's right for you, it won't take long..

Thanks ScottWoz! I'm using a program called BUNAC...I'd love to find a job in graphic design while I'm over there, but am perfectly happy waitressing or bartending to get to meet people. I hear the Gold Coast is amazing.
All advice is helpful so thank you for the tip! :-)

The Gold Coast is amazing but what trumps it is the sunshine coast - the Gold Coast can be a little too "plastic"
hope you enjoy ur time here when you come smile.gif

I envy you, MelGrl. I've been wanting to go to Australia for some time. But when I go, first I'll hit the search engines (like Google or Yahoo!) & research "Sydney Australia underground" then "Sydney Australia alternative", thus getting a lot of info which most tourists never hear. I'd research heavily on where the locals go & what the locals do, rather than where the corporations want me to spend my money. Also look up message boards & internet forums where you can contact Australians in Sydney & directly ask them questions.

You know,
I could definetly use the help to. I hear the same thing too, scott. So many people get stuck in Sydney. From traveling through Europe, Ive meet countless Perthians (??? is this right) and Melbournians, who seemed to be the craziest of the bunch. I have to give it to Melbourne thought. They definetly are all out of fun, and I havent met one I havent liked. Any dirt one these two cities? Perth seems an aweful long ways out of the way, and with no easyjet or ryanair... ohmy.gif ranting2.gif

Hmmm. You can get some great deals on domestic flights in Australia, so I wouldn't worry too much. Check out Virgin Blue for starters.

All down to opinion, as always. For me Melbourne will always put Sydney in the shade as it has the character that Sydney lacks. Same goes for the people. The Melburnian/Sydneyite clash will always be entertaining, but I generally found the Sydney folk to be far more 'bothered' about the popularity battle than the Melbourne folk..
