From that website, he voted yes to this one:

Vote to pass a bill that appropriates $487.03 billion for the Defense Department, military construction, and the Energy Department for the fiscal year 2006.

And this one:

Vote to pass a bill that appropriates $107.41 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and hurricane relief and recovery efforts, among other purposes.

He seems to be all over the place... saying one thing, voting for another.

Oh, he voted against cluster bombs:

Vote to adopt an amendment that prohibits any funding from going to cluster munitions, unless it is clearly specified that such munitions will not be allowed near civilian populations.

And against trying "military combatants"

Vote to pass a bill that creates a military commission to try unlawful enemy combatants for violations of the laws of war and establishes rules for the conduct of these commissions.

Oh and watch out, he voted to remove the military from Iraq, probably this is the thing that I am looking for to dispute me:

Vote to direct the president to begin the phased redeployment of U.S. forces from Iraq.

Well he did vote against the troops! It says right there...he voted to redeploy the troops from Iraq.

Even though the legislation failed (it was a close one!)...he still voted to take them out.

Too much negativity here. Were moving up from having Bush as president. Let's take one step at a time.
There will always be a war in this world. It's just how we handle it and what were fighting that makes the difference.

I'm not being negative, I'm just being skeptical at a time when too many people are being naive.... Yes, it's a better choice than Mr. McCain would've been, but I think people shouldn't settle for "not-bad"....

So it's up to you American people to take a look at his voting history on issues that are important to you.

Boo!

Well what will happen to him? Is he off to The Hague to be tried for war crimes? I hope he takes Tony Blair with him!

Didn't Obama vote in favour of the Iraq war? Or am I confused?

He did not vote for the war in Iraq, but during the debates he did say that he would go into Afgahnistan and Iran.

QUOTE(2olives @ Nov 5 2008, 05:09 PM) *

In a bi-partisan political environment where legislation depends upon the signature of the president, it is naive to look at the voting record as the one and only test of where a candidate stands.

Our system is not THAT different from yours...but yeah, we don't have veto power for our prime minister...

Is it naive? If it is, then we need a new way to judge politicians' real feelings about things.
