Does anyone know how to go from Udaipur to Jaisalmer?

I will be in Pushkar for a few days and then will travel down to Udaipur, however then there doesn't seem to be any transport from Udaipur to Jaisalmer without having to go back to Udaipur which is a good 7 hour's trip?

Many thanks.

How far is this from Jodhpur? There is a daily bus that runs from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer (so says Wikitravel)

Many thanks for your reply. I found out I could take a sleeper bus straight from Udaipur to Jaisalmer I think it's like 13 hours or otherwise break up at Jodhpur, which then would be 8 hours plus 5. I think once I get into the sleeper bus (do you know how that works?) I rather do the journey straight.

Nope, I have no idea how that works. Maybe Josh knows. Do you know, Josh?

I would try to get the single sleeper on the bus ( there are only two right in the front), rather than a double, as with the double you will have to go foot to head with someone else probably. Of course those are directed usually by the bus guy, who assigns your seating. Direct is best, but they will stop a couple of times at a dhaba and/or town for "relief" and possibly quick bite to eat. Make sure you know your bus's horn sound, because if you don't heed it at a stop they will leave without you!
I would say shop around at a few "travel agents," and get the best price. If you get a better price from someone else, you can also use it to haggle a bit on the fare.
"sleeper" bus is really only in name. . . Still, it is much better than regular bus.

Many thanks for your tips, and the single sleeper looks great as I've seen photos now and I was worried of having to sleep with several people on top. I'll follow your instructions, again many thanks. Looking forward to the adventure!!

Regards,

Irma
