I just came back to this site (finally!) because I have been in BA twice now and wanted to follow up on my original post. On my first visit, I took your advice and took a tour with virginia panetta the Buenos Aires History Day tour and absolutely loved it! On my last visit, I tried one of her other tours (Old Buenos Aires) and found it equally fantastic, plus it was cheap!
Her rates are so reasonable and she really knows her history. There are a bunch of tours she describes on her website www.privatebatours.com. You can also ask her any question about shopping or about local flea markets and Tango shows - this was really very nice to have a contact like this to ask anything to.

I have to say that I really loved her restaurant recommendations. The restaurants she knew I never would have found and they were truly authentic experiences that really made my trip.

Thanks for the tip...it totally paid off!

Alternatively, you can take free tours of Argentina with an organisation called "Buenos Aires Free Tours". You can tip them at the end if you wish. But there is no obligation.

I took two different tours with them, highly recommend it.

And also, the ones who are looking to discover the city in a private, deep and relaxed way check up www.culturacercana.com.ar
Tours are made by a lawyer who knows a little bit about this country party.gif
