I want to get over to Eastern Europe too. I've seen a lot of Western Europe, but only been to Slovenia on the eastern side, which was beautiful. Definitely needs more investigation!!!

Ooooooooh, they missed out Montenegro which I can also highly recommend, especially Kotor Bay.

My wife and I went to Eastern Europe for our honeymoon. We purchased the Eurail™ Eastern Europe Pass (a must) and traveled from our base city of Budapest, Hungary. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...can not say enough good things about this half of the continent. The post-communist-meets-Westernization is prevalent and cool, kinda like watching a caterpillar that is cool in it's own right turn into an even cooler butterfly.

I'm suprised more people don't go to Eastern Europe as there are some amazing countries to explore. Bulgaria and Croatia are great and Prague is spectacular, especially during winter. Apart from sianeth's suggestion of Montenegro, are there any other hidden gems we should be checking out?

Not sure it classifies as hidden but Mostar in Bosnia-Hercegovina is a good day trip from Dubrovnik.

Trencin and Devin Castle are also good day trips out of Bratislava.

I spent a month travelling around Easrern Europe (well some of it anyway) and also used the Eastern Europe Rail pass and recommend it to anyone looking at travelling in the area.
