Any suggestions on stuff to do in HK?

I am particularly interested in some really cool bars. Also where to eat and what to have if their are specialties specific to Hong Kong.

Cheers for any info you can give.

I like this site Worlds Best Bars Ahh, but just looked and there's only four posted. That's lame!

When we were in HK we tripped around by foot only and just popped into random bars. There were a few really cool ones, mostly around Lan Kwai Fong but I can't remember any details now!

Lan Kwai Fong (or SoHo, alot of trendy bars) and Wanchai (which is def a bit sleazier) are a couple of decent bar areas. The Backpacker has some bar reviews on it too.

Here's a decent list and breakdown of some barsand clubs

Luk Yu Tea House (24-26 Stanley St., Central) was awesome for Dim Sum. It's super old, the oldest I think in the city.

Sai Kung and Lei Yu Mun areas for wicked seafood. Cheap eats are pretty good around Mongkok or the Ladies Market as it's called.

Do not miss the HotPot and the Peking Duck if you like duck. Oh! And some Sichuan BBQ. Yum!

For a real cool place, go to the Russian ice bar in Lan Kwai Fong

Is this the Balalaika Russian Restaurant? I've been there too, it was pretty cool indeed.

Another good place for nightlife would be Happy Valley. A lot of celebrities hang out there, not that I suggest going celebrity-spotting, but I think it's a good indication of quality. Happy Valley also has lots of good restaurants for mid-night snacks or after bar/club food. Tsim Sha Tsui also has lively nightlife. Some more upscale places like Aqua or Felix's (top floor of the Peninsula Hotel. Awesome view in the mens bathroom).

If you find drinks to be very expensive at the bars and club in HK, some people "pre-drink" at Club 7 aka 7-11 convenient store. It's very common for young people to do that as drinks can get expensive and 7-11 is just around the corner.

In my opinion, Hong Kong is a place where west and east culture interact. I recommend something that is unique and is difficult to find in anywhere else. I have discovered a place in the New Territories that teaches visitors how to make traditional village snack that is passed down from centuries ago. They still use firewood stove to steam the snacks in a traditional way. Wanna have a try of the snack that is freshly made? You can have a heritage walk in the village too.

The snack in the photo is call 'Sau Fan', meaning snack made by hand, the technique will disappear in around 20 years' time if it is not properly conserved.

Attached a blog about it but is written in Chinese, but you can have a look at the photos.

Enjoy.

just take the Star Ferry to TST - the Intercontinental is only a few hundred yards from the ferry terminal - bear left as you exit, walk past the Space Museum and there you are.

(I have no connection with the Intercontinental - except that I stay there a lot. Have done for years :-)

Well I loved HK- as I do with any asian city. It's still not found the place in my heart that KL and BK have but I loved it all the same.

Great trip idea is visit a beach- cheap day out (which when in HK cheap is tricky to find) I went to Shek O which was awesome.
