I am a seasoned traveler but I think I made a slight mistake. I booked my flight to Lima arr March4 and I just realized that that is Semana Santa. I'll be returning on Mar 27 would I be facing trouble trying to find a room at a hostel or economy places and should I do it now or wait a while.

Also need some suggestion for a safe place since I'm arriving at 1 AM thanks, any other suggestions would be appreciated. I'll be heading to Trujillo, Cajamarca then to MP and Arequipa

Do I have a tentative schedule that makes snese or????? I am fluent in Spanish so language is no problem.
My other tentative possibility is to get to Stgo since I have friends and can stay for free. However, I need to return to Lima for my return but would like to keep it economically sound

Hello Searcher,

Semana Santa is usually a long holiday for Latin America, similar to Thanksgiving in the USA. That means locals will be travelling a lot, but not necessarily foreign visitors. I'm not certain, but I would tend to think that you shouldn't have a problem in Lima. If you are arriving at 1 in the morning, you should at least have that first night reserved, and probably as soon as possible. You can shop around the next day if this accommodation is not your cup of tea.

There are no hotels near the airport, so I would suggest the Miraflores area for that night. Miraflores is a 30 to 45 minute taxi ride at that time of night. I usually stay at the Ducado Hotel when I'm in Lima. Ask for a rear room (quieter). http://www.ducado.pe/

Don't scrimp on your transportation at that time of night. You can scrimp and save later. Take the Taxi Green service from the airport. They are safe and reliable, and have fixed prices. http://www.lap.com.pe/ingles/taxis.html

I don't know how long you are going to stay, but of course I'm sure you realise that Trujillo and Cajamarca are in totally the opposite direction than Arequipa and MP. You will have to connect through Lima between these destinations. Are you travelling by bus or by air?

Santiago is not a bad bet, but it will add considerably to your budget. Even though, free lodging with friends would be hard to turn down.
