I have been rapidly devouring books (though my to-read list is also enormous) but I've been craving a book that follows someone in there travels. Of course, I have thousands of blogs here :-) but if you have any suggestions I am all ears!

What strikes to mind as an example is Caliph's house which follows the author moving to Casablanca with his family.

I have read many books on Africa in my last few years of travelling around the continent. I would recommend:
"The Elephant Whisperer" - (I can't remember the author of this one but it's highly recommended by almost everyone who's read it!)
"Whatever you do don't run" and "Don't look behind you but..." by Peter Allison (my favourites for anyone coming on a wildlife visit to Africa)
"Dry Water" by Tammie Matson

There are many more but there's a bit of a start. I'm currently reading "Hyena Nights, Kalahari Days" whilst I'm in South Africa. Let's hope it's good!

a must read (if you havent already read it) is my favourite all time book "Four Corners" by Kira Salak

Synopsis:

"Salak undertook an epic, solo jungle trek across the remote Pacific island nation of Papua New Guinea--often called the last frontier of adventure travel. Traveling by dugout canoe and on foot, experiencing the dangers and wonders of a largely untouched world, she became the first woman to traverse PNG. Salak stayed in villages where cannibalism was still practiced behind the backs of the missionaries, meeting mysterious witch doctors and befriending the leader of the OPM guerrilla movement who fought against the Indonesian occupation of Western New Guinea."

also if you visit her website you can read her other travel storiesKira Salak

Peru: Hell and Back is one of my favourites also Alaska: Hell Bent For The Arctic - biking Alaska's Dalton Highway

fun fact: Kira Salak became the first person in the world to kayak alone 600 miles on the Niger River of Mali to Timbuktu, retracing the fatal journey of the great Scottish explorer Mungo Park. she wrote a book about the experience to "The Cruelest Journey" which was another great read (not as good as her travels in "Four Corners")

I would highly recommend Mark Twain's The Innocents Abroad. It is a book about his travels around Europe. Very interesting and very funny. A lot of the things he experienced have disappeared. He has a lot of funny stories and incidents that happen on their travels. It's one of my favorite books.
