When do you start packing for your trip?

Some people do it the morning of, others a few days before.

It's true... I think it's because I have to pack for little trips so often, it has become second nature. Going for longer ones are pretty much the same. I used to have written lists when I was a teenager, for sure.

QUOTE(2olives @ Sep 23 2008, 01:55 PM) *

I work on a list for weeks before any trip, trying to figure out what will go in which bag, etc, etc. I do the packing, using the list to check everything off, the night before generally.

Lists all the way. I'm even so crazy to break my list into sections etc. It really works though. For me anyway! Then I pack, or start packing usually the week before. I like to be able to spend the week up to leaving with friends and family and take care of any last minute stuff, but not packing. Normally the week before leaving is full of dinners and parties and all the stuff that makes me forget stuff, which I hate doing!

I'm like Louise. The night before, with no list. I always forget something. Next time I'll make a list, perhaps.

Well, the night before is pushing it for long trips. Weekend trips, yeah no problem, the night before.

I never go for more than 10 days...this is North America. I never take much, just a small wheely suitcase. In spite of that I still always forget something and always swear that next time I will make a list.

For short trips I just sling things in a bag the day before but for my two month one I am leaving for this week, I have been packing (well, piling things next to my backpack) for weeks and there has been lists and whittling of lists.

I leave in 3 weeks and we are hopefully going to be travelling for a year ...dont really have a clue about what im going to pack ! im just going to take a mix of things and hope for the best !

Usually when I go on a short trip I pack the week leading up to going away, then always lie awake the night before thinking about what i have forgotten to pack ! Its a really annoying habit !

I always pack the same day. That way I know what's in there. If I'm leaving really early I'll still pack the same day, but everything will be readily 'packable' the night before (or not if there's beer involved). That way I know what's in there, or should I say that way I know everything that should be in there is in there..

For little weekend jaunts using Ryanair/Easyjet I'll just pack 10 minutes before I leave the house! When I go on holiday next week I'll pack the night before and maybe write a list to make sure I've got everything.

I always pack the bare minimum, whether it's a weekend getaway or a month long journey. And I usually pack the minute before I leave, procrastination is a nasty habit.
However packing like I do gets you in trouble, like me deciding to leave my rain jacket at home thinking it's too heavy. Fast forward two weeks and I'm in Brno, Czech Republic, with nothing other than a tshirt and shorts in a torrential down pour. My only thoughts were... "shoulda brought the rain coat."

I pack the same day usually - for weekends we literally get in from work on a Friday night, fling a few essentials in a bag and walk out the door.

For longer trips prolly an hour or two before we are leaving - except for if we have an early flight leaving at silly o'clock, then I'll pack before I go to bed, so that in the morning I can just get up, get dressed and get out of the door.

Two peas in a pod....I make a list of everything I am taking, broken down in sections too!!!!!! I pack the week before and repack until it's in and fitted nicely.....I thought it was so geeky to have a list but it has paid off so many times....and now I am not the only one!

But it was only water...was it cold? Were you in danger of hypothermia? If not...then it's not too bad of a fate...

I start packing a month before we leave. I pack for the five of us. I make a list on what's needed so I know what to add.
