Hey Peeps. . . hyper.gif

I recently started planning my RTW. . .starting from Cairo on 1 April 2011 ending up in SEA through Russia. I plan to be on the road for about 18 - 24 months traveling through quite a number countries.

I don't really have a big plan and don't really want to plan anything accept the odd entry/visa stuff. . .but what i find difficult is to guestimate the durations of stay in each country...

Would it be better to just have a basic idea of where I want to go / end up and just wing the rest?. . .not planning my durations with too much detail....or should be clear on time frames before hand?

With the length of time you are going - I say wing it!! That way you can stay as long in a place as you want to, with no restrictions. With two years in front of you, you can just amble around at your leisure - ideal!!

I'm going on my trip - starting in December, but I've only got 5 and a half months to do it in, so I've had to put some kind of frame around it, given that I want to see a few places. With two years at your disposal, you'll get to see loads and I don't think there is anything to be gained for you by setting any times.

Good luck with whatever you decide frantics.gif

Thanks Guys. . .and Ladies. . . ;-)

Guess I'm pointing in the right direction....it excites me so much but at the same time it makes me nervous too...

@TravelM. . .

Thanks T. . .Seems like you are the one to chat too on these topics!
Where have your travels taken you?

@Russel87
If you are there when I come we can meet for a beer or two. . .and you can show me around a little! Are you traveling as well?

@ denne
I wish I could skip the visa stuff....but I think i'll take the crap as I will need many visas anyway. . .dunno why but it seems like south africans are required to have them for many countries. So it's some thing I will live with. Where have you traveled to?

So far I've been to most of Western Europe, then Kenya, Tanzania, Peru and China really stick out for me as far as experiences go. Dabbled a bit with northern Africa in Morocco and Tunisia ..... other than that the Maldives and a couple of places in North America. So I've travelled to quite a few places, but till now I haven't done any extended travel, the longest being almost a month in Kenya. Still got loads and loads I want to do.

The trip I'm doing starting December will most likely take me to India, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, San Fran and Boston. For a loooooong time I've had this thing about circumnavigating the world and now I'm going to do it frantics.gif

I've got 3 months in South East Asia on this trip, I haven't entirely decided which countries to visit there during that time, but the above is what I keep coming back to when I look at the map at the mo.

You are definitely pointing in the right direction - the memories you create for yourself by going travelling will be priceless. If you don't do it, I think you'll regret it and always look back and wonder what might have been ...... nerves are there to be ignored laugh.gif go for it!!

Hey you guys....I am travelling back from Kenya.
We are so tired that I will need quite some time to adjust back to normal everyday life.
However, I am getting excited with what I read and your plans about the RWT.
I am not jealous at all because I can do such a trip whenever I feel like it, however this time has not come for me as yet.
I look forward to getting back home again and get back to the beautiful beaches of Greece. In a couple of days .....

It is indeed an experience, but very different from what you are going to expeience all these months.

We are coming back although we did not do all the things we planned to do. This because of the bad condition of the roads and the misleading of the person who invited us.
A real big story.....

I am already dreaming of swimming...... beach.gif drinking drinks_wine.gif and resting yes.gif
