My wife and I are traveling to Addis in a few weeks. We'll be staying for about two months. I've been looking into ways of staying connected with family and friends back in the states and figure that using email shouldn't be a big issue. I'd also like to use Skype or some other VoIP product but have gotten mixed information on it's availability in Ethiopia. My understanding is that VoIP is illegal and Skype is specifically blocked. Can anyone confirm this for me? Also, if that's true, are there any options for connecting via audio and/or video through the internet with folks back in the U.S.?
I use
Onesuite VoIP and I get very good connection all the time. I never been to Ethiopia so I am not sure which VoIP they block or if they block all VoIP connection. I guess we will never know until we try.
