No one can predict the future but Bangkok, as of right now, might be safer than your own home country capital city!
If you are referring to the protests that were going on a month ago that situation is over and done with. Keep in mind that during the last situation that tourists were not the targets of these protests! Even during the protests tourists by the thousands were still showing up. Many of them were either choosing cities away from Bangkok or choosing an area of Bangkok not affected by civil disturbances.
Enjoy your time in Thailand during the Christmas season. This is the "high season" by the way, many of the hotels are fully booked so get you reservation in in advance. December has nice weather for you to enjoy.. But keep in mind that all of Thailand has summer like weather all year long, so you don't have to waste all of your time only at beaches
Now is the time to double check your visa requirements and get your plane tickets. Plane tickets can be a little expensive, especially closer to Christmas.
