North Island - 1. Tongariro Alpine Crossing -
This walk will take around 7-9 hours. It is a 18.5 km walk the length of Mt. Tongariro starting from the Mangeteopo Valley. This is a great North Island walk.

2. Lake Waikaremoana Track -
Do you like to fish or swim? This is the place. The Te Urewera National Park has over 650 species of native plants along with native birds. It is 46km, around a 4 to 6 day tramp of moderate level following the lake shore mostly.

3. Heaphy Track -
For those quite fit this is the longest DOC walk. It is in the Kahurangi National Park and is 82km long taking around 4 to 6 days to complete. Home to the great spotted Kiwi and a host of other wildlife. You can enjoy views of the rugged West Coast, forst and tussocks and a couple of ancient settlements dating from the 13th 14th century.
Heaphy Track4. Routeburn Track -
From Lake Wakitipu (Queenstown area) it is a moderatly easy walk 32km about 3 days through the Mt Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks.
Routeburn Track5. Milford Track -
An impressive 53.5km for 4 days this walk features waterfalls, scenic mountains. It is for moderately fit walkers.
