How frustrating!!
Personally, I would at least try to see someone face to face. Maybe you could head to the airport you flew into and, though it will likely take time, maybe you could at least get some of the answers you need. Maybe at lost and found? Sometimes accomplishing these kinds of things over the phone is like searching for a needle in a haystack!
Is it possible to maybe contact the airline you flew with for some assistance? I know it was security's error but maybe they have dealt with something like this before and can offer some advice as to who you should talk to.
Argh... you must be miffed. After I read your post I read a few online articles about this sort of thing and apparently it's quite common as is intentional theft. In Seattle they have someone working full-time trying to contact hundreds of people who forget their laptops, leaving them behind at security.
