Here's an interesting article from Turkish Airlines inflight magazine, featuring the area around Isparta in the heart of Turkey's Lake District. A few years ago we spent a long weekend in a lovely Pansiyon on the shores of Lake Eğirdir on Yeşilada (Green Island).

It's a spectacular region with lush agricultural landscapes, lakes, forests, ancient sites and a background of mountains. Well worth a visit!

An interesting footnote to my earlier post above.

Eğirdir was knows as Akrotiri ("promontory" in Greek) after its obvious geographic feature but the name was originally corrupted in Ottoman times to Eğrirdir (meaning "it's bent"). The name was changed yet again in the mis-1980's to its present Eğirdir (meaning "it's spinning") which the powers-that-be presumably thought was more dignified!
