Hi there

Hubby and I are from Sydney and we are off on a RTW trip at the beginning of 2008. drinks.gif

We still have not confirmed our itinerary but so far we are going to avoid buying a RTW ticket and just go with the flow, go for as long as our money lasts and try and pack light - seems to be the common advice.

We are planning to travel for about 8 months and then work in the UK at the end of our travels. We are also hoping to do some community projects as part of our travels. The destination I am most excited about is India and hubby can't wait to get to Moscow.

Am looking forward to getting heaps on inspiration from these forums. So far trying to choose the right gear has proven the biggest headache.

i too have opted to forgo a RWT ticket and just see where my journey takes me but i am thinkin twice about it as a RWT ticket would at least guarantee me gettin home in the event of me finding myself broke *lol* somethin ill look into further.
your trip sounds great and like you im here for advice and inspiration and theres alot to be found here!

You're trip sounds great! Have you got some community projects already in mind? Sounds like a fantastic way to travel and give something back.

Yep we have looked at the World Expeditions Community Project expedition to Nepal to work with building a school - there is a great clip of last years expedition on YouTube which really confirmed it for us

That sounds really great! Good for you guys.

I just took a look at the site and it looks awesome. Too bad more people weren't giving back something on their travels.

It should would make the world a happier place yes.gif

So, you've got 6 months left to prepare!

Welcome to the forums guys, and congrats on the upcoming trip.. thumbsup.png

I really do reckon it'd be worth (over time) constructing some sort of list of community projects undertaken/available in various parts of the world, to assist and encourage other travellers to do the same and also to continue the work and support that is offered.

Anyway, good luck with the planning - the time will fly by..

I second that. A list compiled would be an absolutely fabulous resource. It can be tough to know what you're getting into and it would be great to get info from others about different projects. I know when I looked it took me forever to find the right ones and even then I wasn't sure....luckily they turned out great.
