If you're looking for a nice outdoor hike, head up to Townsend, MA and check out Willard Brook State Forest. The property is beautiful, the trails are nice (not too hard, not that easy) and you don't have to spend half the day in the car traveling up north. I also noticed they had nice campsites if you're looking to extend your stay. Here is the link to the DCR's website. Check it out! http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/wilb.htm
