If you were to open a hostel, where would you do it and why? If you like, go into detail about the hostel. I know we´ve talked about similiar topics but not sure on location.

I love both NYC and Buenos Aires though I know both these cities are way over crowded with hostels.

I would open a hostel in the Atacama desert in Chile. There are quite a few already there, but that is a place I wouldn't mind staying in for many years. The backpackers and travelers are from all over the world, so it would never be boring and everybody is down to earth.

I am happy that there is at last a hostel in Larnaca too. (Cyprus)
I wil go and check on it when I get to Cyprus next time and if it is nice I will include it in my guide "Cyprus on a budget", that I plan to write soon.

I do LOVE the beach. Would be nice to have a hostel on a beach.

I would open a chain of hostels in Alaska, where so much more are neeeded. More & more people viisit Alaska for nature viewing, outdoor sports, & cultural viewing but so few affordable accomodations are available.

Probably somewhere near a National Park in the US. I think there is a great disparity for budget accommodations. Couple that with a shuttle service to nearby airports within a few hours, and people would flock.

This is definitely something I have thought of plenty of times. Of course I would love to open a hostel in some exotic destination with beautiful beaches or mountain views...however I think a great place to open up a hostel would actually be Hoboken, NJ.

Hoboken is directly across the Hudson River from New York City. It has an incredibly young population, considering a large university is located there plus a lot of college graduates move there due to the proximity to NYC. The city is dominated by one main street which is filling with restaurants, bars, and botique shops. Any night of the week there is bound to be a crowd of people outside. The city is also a stop on the PATH train network that can bring you into NYC in less than 10 minutes.

Plus there are beautful old houses that act as dorms and frat/sorority houses for the college that would make perfect hostels. Small rooms for privates, big multi-shower multi-toilet bathrooms, huge rooms for dorms, large living and communal areas.

Yes I have thought about it immensely. It is a ripe area for a hostel. Will it ever be done? Probably not.
