I fly in to Bogotá and don’t catch a flight to Santa Marta until the next day. I was wondering if there is a cheap place to stay by the airport, maybe an Hostel. It doesn’t matter about if it is nice or not; I just don’t want to miss my flight the next day. alien.png

Winster, I'm from Bogota and I don't think there is anything "cheap" by the airport (You may find hotels around $50.00) all the hostels are in downtown bogota, pretty far away from the airport. I recommend either to camp at the airport or to pay around $50.00 to stay close to the airport.

Hello and thank you for your response. Hmmmm, stay at the airport? That’s an 11-hour stay. Is that plausible? Where would I stay or should I say crash? About lodging around the airport, the only thing I have found is around $100 a night. (US) Do you know of any that are around $50? I’m sure there has to be some that don’t have a website or link. Thanks for your help!

Alrady, I found a Hostal for you, HOSTAL BOGOTA REAL. It is in a nice neigorhood, the night is $28 and they will pick you up at the airport for an extra $9 so you don't have to take a taxi.(I found that hee in Travelpod Hostales)

I think this is the smartes way to go, although, you could find hostels that are cheaper, but they are in downtown bogota, really far way fom the airport; and you can take a taxi, but since yo don't know the city or speak the language they may mugg you or just take you for a long ride to charge you more than $9 bucks.

Good luck,

Caro!

What you want is a website, www.sleepinginairports.com

I used to think it was a bit of a joke website until I had the prospect of a night in KL airport, it's a great site.

Although if you have the cash, take the bed anyday!

Cheers,
Ron.

I sent them an email and they sent one back saying it would be $40 us. I wrote them back saying that there website says $30, so they havent returned my email. Looks nice in the pictures but I dont know??

Also, as a tip, remember to take some extra cash to the airport when you leave for the Exit Fee. When I left this past monday, it cost me $126,000 pesos. I'm not too sure but I believe that I heard it was $44 in USD.

Im confused?? I read this on a website and if I am reading it right you have to pay some sort of exit fee? Is this true?

I don't know, if you have any problems let me know and I may be able to call them, perhaps they are trying to charge you more since you don't know spanish( pretty common)

About the exit fee, it is true. Everybody has to pay around $50 USD to leave Colombia(I Don't know exactly how much)

Well I guess you could say I am having problems. They are no longer returning my emails. So if you give them a call I'll buy the drinks, that is if you want.

hyper.gif I thought you lived in Bogota. So its you used to live in Bogota?? Well anyway, I am suppose to arive in Bogota at around 9 pm on Sept. 22nd and catch a flight out the next morning at 7:30 am. I fly back to Bogota October 11th at 11 pm and fly back home the next day at 8 am.

I was thinking about staying at the airport but that sounds like a pain (at least thats what I get from the website mentioned above). My only worry is getting back to the airport on time. Does it take very long from checking in to boarding the flight? (Bogota to Santa Marta)

Winster, getting back to the airport may be a pain in the butt. Traffic in Bogota is crazy and you may get stuck. I don't know what to tell you. Getting in the next flight shouldn't be a problem just be there one hour an a half early, Let me know what do you want to do

I think you may be right about getting back to the airport being a pain in the butt. First off another person I'm getting help from says that depending on what your license plate number is depends on weather you can drive that day (or something like that) and also that I should be at the airport 3 hours early before my flight. That would mean I need to be there around 4 am in the morning. So I’m thinking I should just stay at the airport.

If this is the case then do you have any recommendations including safety precautions that I should take at where and how I crash at the airport? Why would I have to be there so early before my flight?

Once again I want to thank you for all your help!

About the license plate, it doesn't apply for public transportation, so if yo take a taxi that will be ok. 3 hours early???? I think that is for international flights, no dosmestic, but you can ask once you get there.

I belive you will be fine at the airport, just don't leave you bags unattendent they may get stolen. No lke it happnes all the time, but just to be safe.

Winster, I can't give you and Idea as I have never camp in the airport. About the money, there are plenty of places you can exchnage your money, you will see them along the counters. They all have signs in English!!!

As a tip, please don't leave your bags unattendent, or with a "friend" you may find at the airport. In the past that way people have lost their luggage or the "friends" have put drugs in the bag.

Caro!

p.s: and please, please don't trust COLOMBIAN women, you may fall in love donw there, as we are IRRESISTIBLE!!!!!!
