Don Muang airport has now officially reopened its doors, reportedly only for domestic flights.

"Don Muang had been shuttered six months ago as officials hoped Suvarnabhumi would establish Bangkok as Southeast Asia's preeminent air hub.

Instead, the three-billion-dollar facility has been plagued by problems from cracks in the runways to complaints about safety and sanitation.

Officials say that moving domestic flights to the old airport will ease overcrowding at Suvarnabhumi and make it easier to repair the runways and fix other problems."

Thai Airways will keep some flights to more popular destinations such as Chiang Mai and Phuket at Suvarnabhumi hoping to minimize any inconvenience to the more then 13 mill. people who visit Thailand each year.

Some people are complaining of arriving at the new airport and having to connect to the old one for domestic flights which is said to be a hassle. The gov't has not commented on how long repairs will take at the new airport, or whether the shift to D.M. is temporary or not.
