I read a book not so long ago about some guy's trials and traumas trying to make a life in Kiribati, in the equatorial pacific. It was a pretty bizarre account and highly enlightening. I know of no-one who has been so I thought I'd pose the question:-

Anyone ever been?

Nominate me as a Local Expert
I know I'm like 4 years late on this but....my folks used to live out there back in the 70s until the island gained independence from the UK (in '79). My dad was an electrical engineer out there and was apparently responsible for the provision/spread of electricity throughout the Gilbert Islands/Kiribati.

I'm planning to go this year to see the place to anyone with any advice needs to hit me up :-) (please)
