My wife and I are planning on making a around the world trip. We are looking to skip North/South America, but go to Africa, Europe, Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. I was trying to get a general itinerary setup about when to go & not to go to certain areas and start some general travel plans. I wanted to start by having a basic idea where we will be during certain parts of the year. We are looking to leave the US in Feb or March.

Does anyone have any sample itineraries from around the world trips? Or any other advice about our first around the world trip would be great.

Thanks in advance ....

g'day Trader,

You are embarking on a big trip with the countries and continents that you wish to visit this will be very much controlled by the amount of time you shall be away and how much money you are prepared to pay. DO NOT scimp on tours etc with reputable tour groups if you do then you will pay for it in the end but if you wish to just back pack around then again join a backpackers organisation and use their booking systems to stay in.

There is one most important Tip is to make sure you only deal with a reputable travel agent and do all bookings etc thru them may cost a smidge more but believe me when u get to the other end and there is the transfer to your hotel tour etc is waiting for you not oh oh will they be there Tell the travel agent what you want not what they want listen but if it does not suit your budget or itinerary tell them if they are as good as they say this will be no problem and they will listen to you

Other influencing matters are Health and fitness what medications you are on if any. Our round the world trip took us 77days and we visited Dubai, (3 days) Egypt, (10 Days) The UK (40 Days) and East to west across Canada (20 days), of these i strongly advise organised Tours In Dubai and Egypt, mainly for security and ease of travel.

We found the 10 day pyramids and Nile tour to be plenty and we did it in the middle of summer in July as a result there were only 7 of us on the tour and we had the full attention of a wonderful guide plus fewer crowds which means u get to see the sites for longer and really appreciate the enormity of the temples and pyramids this was not a fast pace tour.

As i said before money is a factor if you can pre- pay for these then it is one less burden it took me nearly 12 months of research on the net to finally get where what we wanted to see another interesting and little advertised beauty is as you are going around the world get online and check out the round the world ticket prices we flew all the way around for 10,000 Aus dollars each Business class this included internal flights across Canada, the beauty of Business is:

1/ free lounges and internet food and drink

2/ a quieter place to relax between flights

3/ First on the plane first off thru customs and baggage is first delivered

4/ the comfort means less jet lag and if night flights lie flat beds to sleep

5/ No long queues at check-in plus ability prior to flights to organise seating

Have a look at my blog on around the world in 77 days and it will give u a rough idea of what to see in if u have other questions just ask again in here and i am sure others will help as well

Hi Trader437

It really depends on your wants/needs/desires.

I found that the first place to start is by getting a big map of the world, and first deciding which countries you really want to visit. By doing that you can then start looking at ticketing prices and whether it is cheaper to get all flights individually or to take a 'round the world' ticket, or whether to do a combination of both - which is what I've ended up doing for my trip.

People each have their own personal tastes and ways of doing things, but doing things independently, for me, gives far greater satisfaction - so my advice would be to decide upon where you want to go and start reading travel blogs on here to give you an idea of the sorts of places you'd be interested in going to and then investigate ways of doing it for yourself. I believe that purchasing tours for everything - in the main - ends up costing you more money and you can never truly be free to experience things as you want, as you are being herded round in a group and may want to stay longer than others some places and far less than others at other places.

A big contributing factor will also be how much time you have - there is a fine line to be made between seeing/experiencing lots and cramming too much in so that you end up not really getting to know any place for what it is.

If you have any specific question just ask, as I'm sure someone on here will be able to help.

Happy trip planning!! hyper.gif

Hi Trader

Yes, it all depends on budget and time

what worked for us is:

Dont plan too much, split it up in smaller blocks of 1/2 months and take it from there, this way you stay flexible.
Have a goal for places you visit, like hike this trail, see this site, east this food etc.. otherwise you find yourself wondering around waisting time
Take a break from traveling now and then, just stay at one spot for a week or two, sounds silly but traveling is tierin
g.

We are now in Mongolia on day 123 of our journey, don't know when we will finish, probably somewhere early next year, haven't planned that yet.. smile.gif
