Could be great news for those living in Europe. It's expected that they will be joining forces with Virgin (Probably start Virgin Blue in Europe) or Easyjet.

With the start of Oasis Airlines low cost Lon-HK route last year for £75 +tax one way this is a very promising time for Asian travel. Plus Air Asia is great biggrin.gif

Yeh, someone was just telling me about this at dinner tonight. It's unbelievable. I'm suprised it's profitable to run these deals on such long haul flights.

If it happens then KL is going to become one of the major hubs in Asia. The increase in tourism Malaysia could receive would be incredible. I think they'll use the same style of pricing as Oasis. Cheap if you book really early but still cheaper than the main airlines if close to departure.

Hopefully it'll be Virgin and I can get more air miles!

Um one word. WOW!!! "Reports suggest Air Asia X flights to London could be priced as low as 9.99 ringitt ($2.84; £1.46)."

"The venture - a tie-up between Air Asia and Fly Asian Express (FAX) - will launch in July and fly to destinations in India, China and Europe."

It costs me more to get in to town and back on the bus.

It costs more than double that amount for a 43sec journey on the Tube according to the papers yesterday!

I had a look at the Wiki entry for Air Asia earlier and they are really going to be the dominant force in Asia, even more so than they are already. If they are branching out to India thats brilliant. They already fly to South China so I assume they'll be adding Kunming, Shanghai, Xi'an and Beijing to their quota.

One surprise thing I hadn't noticed is they have joined forces with another couple of smaller low cost companies and will be servicing Bangladesh and Sri Lanka from early 07! Bangers needed it as Biman are supposed to be a terrible airline and on the verge of going bust.

Wonder if people will be kicking up a fuss in Asia about Carbon Emissions like in the UK? Bet Malaysia don't really care as the amount of air traffic increase they'll be getting will really boost their economy. The UK government should realise there's a reason people are turning to the low cost airlines....It's cheaper than taking the train which is a disgrace!

Update int the plans for Air Asia X. Looks like it'll be delayed until next year. They have a "minor technical issue".......no planes!

That is a bit of a glitch, isn't it?! Well, I'll be looking forward to when they do get some planes going.

It's mega expensive to fly into Asia from Canada. Most of the routes I've taken have been through the States, even though flights from Vancouver over are the regular routes ( they are big $$). This way maybe we can hop over on a cheap flight into London and head out from there.....

you've got to imagine they'd start flying to the US west coast so maybe Canada as well. They've been given rights to 36 destinations so they must have something up their sleeves. Only destinations announced so far are:
  • Manchester (UK)
  • London (UK)
  • Amritsar (India)
  • Sharjah (U.A.E)
  • Tianjin (Near Beijing, China)
  • Hangzhou (Near Shanghai, China)
  • Osaka (Japan0
  • Melbourne (Aus)
I imagine they'll be a few low cost hubs in Europe like Frankfurt, Paris, Barcelona etc. Probably LA, Hawaii, Seoul and Sydney as well.

Wow! that would be great. i hope they come to the u.s. too. we have yet to get anything that i'd really qualify as a low cost airline here (at least on west coast). $99 one way within the usa isn't exactly budget.
