Hi everyone!

I've always fancied myself as a bit of a travel writer. God bless the person who invented blogging!! It's the first time we've created a blog but this year is our big 5-0s so we're off on a special holiday, cruising the Pacific from SF to Oz starting in September. We did a cruise last May around the Baltic. We enjoyed the experience so thought we'd go super-size!!!

This cruise is with Pricess Line from SF to Sydney via the South Pacific. We still need to sort out our flights from Mancheser or London to SF, then Sydney to London or Manchester with a stop over in Singapore and maybe Dubai. Any guidance, tips or direction to the appropriate forum would be appreciated. We'd even consider any recommended alternative stop-overs to the one's I've just mentioned.

Sounds like a wonderful trip you have lined up!

In terms of your stop-overs, I don't know how much time you will have but you may consider Kuala Lumpar or Bangkok as an alternative to Singapore. I haven't yet been to Singapore myself but I understand it is largely just a shopping spot. However, if you have some time, exploring the culture in BKK or KL may be more interesting. Air Asia also has cheap flights from KL to London.

I'd agree with the tip to stop in Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur rather than Dubai or Singapore if you get the chance. I've been to all 4 and as long as Malaysia and Thailand are more vibrant and far less sterilised unless you are going to treat yourself to 5+* luxury in which case UAE or Singapore might be what you're looking for.

Have a look at the destinations forum for more ideas.

You don't say when your cruise will begin and end, so it's rather difficult to make recommendations. If you're looking for expanding your travel experience, I'd skip Singapore (city-state) and consider any other destination in South-East Asia. It also depends a great deal on what you wish to accomplish; rest or looking at the sites?

There are a limited number of activities you can accomplish in Singapore such as a) orchid botanical garden, cool.gif night safari, c) Sentosa Island, d) Raffle's Hotel Long Bar, and e) the many good restaurants along the river.

If you want more info on other destinations in that region, please let me know. party.gif

I've attached a picture of the Tahitian Princess (no longer uses that name).
