Hi all, me and my partner have been thinking about travelling, however we also want to look at buying a house, so are looking to try and do it as cheap as possible.

Any ideas on the best way to go about it? We have looked at possibly doing a 6 month break and using savings, to pay, however when we get back our current jobs may not be available, leaving us struggling for our future house plans.

Only other way we have thought is may be doing 2 weeks, visiting 3 close countries, and then a further week somewhere later in the year. Unsure if we would get stung on flights though, and would we be able to get some sort of flight ticket that allowed us to come home and then go back out at a later date in the year?

thanks

Leigh

Hmmm... I definitely wouldn't buy a house AND travel for six months if I didn't know whether or not I'd have any work when I got back. You should talk to your bosses and find out for sure what would happen with your jobs if you took a sabbatical. You can't make any decisions until you know exactly what would happen.

Having a job is a must if you want to get a mortgage for that new house your looking for.
Do as much homework on the locations you are thinking about via the internet and phone.
Let an agent do all the work finding what you want and sending you pictures of everything. Ass much as possible.
If you split up you could cover multiple areas at the same time then after you've agreed on one take a weekend to go back and show it to your partner.

"would we be able to get some sort of flight ticket that allowed us to come home and then go back out at a later date in the year?"
I've never herd of anything like this but checkout multiple destination tickets. Still your going to pay for it one way or another. There is no magical way around this problem.
Good luck.

P.S. Are you thinking of buying this house in the same country you already live in?

The time has come to make a choice. Either you choose to be at your desk, on time, everyday, or you choose to travel and see the world.
