Welcome to the forums, wouterb!

First of all, where are you from? Do you want to stay closer to home, or travel far and wide?

Do you like cold weather? Come to Canada!

If not, I'd suggest an island hopping tour of the Caribbean.

Hi,

Well i am from Holland....and no i am not into cold weather for my next trip.

As it stands i have a month (or a bit more) to travel in February/March. I like Asia, not to keen on South America....

I have been thinking of
- South India (Rajasthan and Gujarat i have been a couple of years ago)
- Vietnam
- Indonesia

But then there is Iran....which is also fascinates me.

But i guess i want a beach for a least a week....Caribean sounds good, but since i am travelling alone that would be a bit expensive....

besides the beach, i am a food lover and like to do a bit of diving (just a couple)...

so what would be your choice? jump.gif

Hmmm... I don't think the Caribbean would be that expensive. There are lots of good diving schools out there too. I really liked Saba, an island near St. Martin.

If I were you, I'd try for Iran or India.

Yes, well saba i would like to visit....still is part of the netherlands like half of sint maarten and aruba among others. i have heard good stories about them....and then there is cuba of course jump.gif

But i would love to go sailing there....and then a month is a bit short.

Did you dive at saba? How was that?

And Iran? did you go there?

I didn't dive in Saba, but a lot of people staying with us in "El Momo" cottages did.
They loved it. It's a short course, maybe 5 days that they took.

Nope! I haven't been to Iran, but if I did go, I'd be sure to go with a man, so I could pretend he was my husband!

well thanks but my fellow Dutch isn't always a selling point :-)... but i have been to egypt (a very good place for diving) and israel(i like the food)...haven't been in Jordan though. These places are good for a week because they are close by...and would make a good month trip (the three of them)....the region is interesting that's why Iran is still on my shortlist.

Personally I'd go for India. Something about traveling India by rail has always fascinated me...

But you are right, Iran is equally intriguing.

What kind of trip are you going for? History/sightseeing or relaxing or a mix of both?

I love train travel...and did some long ones when i was in India the last time...a real experience, at like the rest of india it has it challenges....overnight at least. 2011 is a long way away....but it is interesting. I always prefer the train anyway

I have no set plans in culture or history...i know i don't want just see the temples...travel is more a way to meet people, explore, taste different things and relax...there was a time when i made plans...only to throw them out the window on the second day. In that light Iran would not be a smart choice for the moment...it would require more planning i think.

so that leaves me Vietnam and India....if i would have to pick today it probalby would be India and leave the rest for a long sabbatical yes.gif

I vote for India in 2011, with us.

So, for the beginning of next year, go to Vietnam then.

you already decided you are going?
well 2 weeks on second class sleeper...i probably need a holiday after that..LOL
If i could fit this in a 2 month trip i would consider it....but it is always to tempting to go out and explore....2 weeks solid on a train with it's limited sanitation is a very long strech. I looked to your travels yesterday and didn't see india (or missed it of course)...so did you ever spend a night on a train in india?

i have another question, you might know. how do you get your picture under the name at the forum and how can i keep track of posts in the forums?

Nope, I've never done it, there's a first time for everything.

How to get your picture under your name:

1. At the top of the page click My Controls

2. At the left hand side click "My Profile Photo Settings"

3. Then upload a small one or link to a photo that is hosted somewhere else.

well there is a first time for everything of course....but indian train (in which the hole in the ground is the toilet) can be fun...but maybe you should try a day or night first. It is not like the orient express or the trans-siberia where you have compartments you can close of. it is much more basic...very open plan....and the indians don't really have a feel for privacy...LOL

i already put my photo on my blog site...the same way...probalby needs some time to filter i think...but thank you
