Great idea, but mine keeps continually backing up and sending me to the wrong part of the page whilst i'm writing... very frustrating. It may have something to do with the dodgy ferry computer I am using currently though, so I shall persevere.... did I spell that correctly??

dear Travelpod
this feature is USELESS if I write a gigantic entry and I'm getting told auto-save is functioning and then when I attempt to post I get a note that my session has expired and the ENTIRE THING IS LOST anyway.
Writing a time-stamp to my edit page is not the same thing as reassuring me that my writing will be saved. Anguish and despair,

I am so utterly fed-up with travelpod right now, that I can't even continue writing the sections of entry that I lost!
I try to maintain a good travel blog, and my entries are lost NOT due to some "virus-riddled internet cafe PC" but because of dumb session management on travelpod's end.
I don't know whether it's because you're using perl, or what, but I can't even retrieve my entry by hitting the back button on my browser.
Why am I penalized for taking a long, thoughtful time to write a good entry?
Can you _please_ write an auto-save that functions to maintain the state of the latest draft at all costs, or maybe offers something like version control?

QUOTE(ericlussier @ Dec 19 2008, 09:48 AM) Hi Stars,
First of all, I'm sorry that you lost your entry. We've tried to cover all the edge cases when it comes to backing up an entry, but unfortunately there always seems to be one more.
In this instance, did you leave your browser open on the edit entry page overnight or at least for a period longer than 3 hours?
I started writing early in the morning, had to go out, came back and resumed writing, finished my post, clicked to publish and -- gone --! my computer was still open, the internet connection was not interrupted, same IP address, etc., and most foolingly, the auto-save timestamp was still updating. If the timestamp had stopped I would have known the session was over.

QUOTE(ScottWoz @ Dec 20 2008, 12:06 AM) How about this:
Whenever you finish an entry, JUST BEFORE you click finish, highlight all text and copy it. If the whole thing falls down the pan simply paste it again into the entry. Problem solved. Foolproof.
I would never go out, come back, and click finish without copying the text first. That said, the feature should've worked so I can understand the frustration. I'd just rather be safe than sorry..
Yep, that seems to be the best solution. My complaint is that auto-save claimed to be working when wasn't, and I mistakenly relied on that info. I look forward to seeing travelpod grow and improve!

QUOTE(ericlussier @ Oct 30 2008, 09:21 AM) We're very pleased to announce what is possibly the best feature on Travelpod that we hope you'll never have to use: automatic backups of your entry. The best part about it is that you don't have to do a thing. While scribing your latest post, we'll save your changes every 30 seconds and store them safely on our servers. In the event that your browser crashes, just log back into TravelPod and you'll be greeted with the following message at the top of the page: Simply click "Continue Editing" and you'll be right back to where you left off. We have heard many painful stories from every corner of the world about lost masterpieces due to virus ridden Internet Cafe PCs, and this feature should finally put your mind at ease. We hope you like it, but never have to use it! i dont understand a thing about computers...i dont even know if im typing this in the right place... but if i am, thanks for this, it has saved a couple of entries i would have lost otherwise... i always pln to quicksave but never quite manage it...!
