I think you will find that most of the christians in India are in the south, especially in Goa and in the southern ghats--the portugese and other influences brought in that religion which was an attractive alternative to Hindu. It helped many to break out of the restrictive caste system.
In the north there are less christians, more punjabis and hindis.
Strangely enough, in Kerala there is a primarily jewish settlement with (at least they will tell you) one of the biggest synogogues in the world. Try to visit a little town in the southern ghats on the way to munnar, called Marayor. Nice people, huge church on the hill, all christians. That part of Kerala also has a large christian population.

I find Indian christianity to be more pure than say, american. Love thy neighbor, turn the other cheek, live together in peace, all the good stuff.

The Indian government is not very effective, and reasonably corrupt, though they like everything on paper.
